Smoking Ban in Ontario
As of May 31, 2006, the province of Ontario will prohibit smoking in public places, that includes casinos. This might have a severe affect on casinos and other gambling related spots. The government is already predicting that an estimated $200 million in revenue will drop for the gaming industry.
Non-smoking bylaws have already gone in effect in certain areas. The charity casino in Brantford has lost $130 million to date. Casinos on the Canadian border will also lose its players to the American casinos that allow smoking.

The casino is trying to come with new and exciting ways to attract people. They have already started a $400 million renovation project on the casino which will be completed in two years.

Ontario is gonna hurt... mark May 31, 2006 on your calander.. it will be like a movie debut and all Ontarians will have a ticket to watch.
The ripple effect, beginning with layoffs, bankruptcy, charities unable to find funding, unemployment ratings, welfare increases, forclosures due to lack of a job...a poorer healthcare system.. (worse than the one we already have now) Loss of more healthcare benefits (already posted) in OHIP offices, rental vacancies (with rents too high to include welfare recipients income of $520.00 month) LOLOL...
Not to mention the strain of 'high' gas prices, the changes already posted in the 'Drive Clean' program, the loss of American revenue and how the US is laughing at us as we send their dollars back home..
I will bet, that an employee who worked in a smoking enviornment, once they lose their job and are forced to live on Welfare funds would think twice about the purpose of McGuinty's government.

It's not going to bad as bad as what people think actually I don't believe to many jobs will be lost. Actually I know many people that are going to go to the casino's more often including me, some of us don't like to breathe what you call cigarette smoke. Look at the year 2000 everyone was worried did anything bad happen nope same thing for this going to be a day to celebrate and breath cleaner air in casino's and other indoor areas. I even wrote to the Mc Guity government and even said this is not strick enough yet we need no smoking near doorways also and no smoking near children it is not right to abuse children with this harmful drug.

Bingo Halls will go under ( and they were PROMISED that if they build a smoking room?? it could stay ) They are FU*&*ing liers! and there goes all the charities! Bar owners having to close and begging to change this stupid ban, so don't tell me it is not hurting anything here because it is! It wasn't good enough to have smoking rooms was it? I completely agree with the smokers here on this issue. I am a NON SMOKER and what all of us non-smokers and some smokers have done is just opened pandora's box!! I'm glad to see that there are still people out there who believe smokers have rights. I was gettin g a bit worried.
Just to let our non-smoking audience know.. I did attend a bingo hall on the second day of the ban. I called ahead to see the impact and was told by some bubbly blonde..
It hasn't affected us at all and as a matter of fact, it smells better in here.'
When I reached there, (a few minutes prior to the sesseion) I could see all my fellow smokers outside. They were not pleased and I have to admit, that when I went inside, I found myself reaching for my purse numerous times for my usual form or 'relaxation' after work (smoking and enjoying the game).
I looked around and called one of the workers over. I asked him, how many Americans do you see here today? He said 5?.. he said there are few people though. I looked at him and said.. This IS cheque day you know. His face went white and it hit him.
80% of the patrons ARE smokers and the ex-smoking room had ample seating remaining to triple what was there on cheque day. The ex-non smoking room had a mere approx. 25 people inside.
This is not CNN reporting the good things about US on Iraq, this is the real goods.. I was there.
After the session, the place cleared out and I would guess there were approx 65-75 people remaining in the entire hall. ON CHEQUE DAY.
Have I been back? I don't think I will, I didn't enjoy my quiet time or did I feel relaxed. As a player to spends around $30.00 a session to which the charities would make their 60% after expenses, I don't think a child will be dancing in a charity helping dancing school from my money or any other charity for that matter. It is THEM who I feel sorry for.
We are becoming a Communist country and we are Canadians. We do what we're told, we're quiet and polite.
I'm going to play online bingo from here on. I can sit inside, smoke my brains out and give my money to a foreign country who will appreciate me.

Put your feet up and watch how you bring this city to it's knees with bankruptcys, layoffs, loss of charities, and the ripple effect that will go with it. No money? No one will buy vehicles. Sports bars, weekend entertainment and other 'enjoyable' things for smokers with follow suit..

I can see that your addcitive drug you call smoking is really getting to you. People are going to have to go out in -20 C weather to smoke just quit but I guess it is so addcitive that you got to be stupid to keep going. by the way I forgot to mention the casino's business in niagara is the same as before both of them so no loss business even restaurants that had a smoking room same business as before so far no business loss as I can see. When your a gambler it comes before smoking it's addictive also and I think more than smoking.

smoking is not a freedom is a a very addictive habit that is finally being taken care of slowly. When you interfere with other peoples air space things have to be done. Not everyone like to breathe your garbage smoke from your drug you call cigarettes finally the government is doing something about it and it aint done yet with cigarettes either. Of course your going to say 100 percent of this is because of smoking I thought smokers would blame all of this on smoking bans. Wake up smokers would you we can live without your smoking in building and this is not the main reason because of job losts. Don't forget right now our dollar is high and the USA dollar is low they would be stupid to come to Canada if they can gamble in their country with their own dollar. When our dollar goes back down and it will one day they will be back. What about stores and other places that stopped smoking years ago even buses trains people still go to stores people still take buses and train you can't stop living because of a stupid smoking ban so smarten up will you ok. They say smoking is not addictive go tell someone else this just like an alcoholic a smoker will not admit they are addicted to smoking. When you admit you are addicted to smoking then you can get help you sure need it. As for bingo halls also dying down sorry not where I live still busy was there the other day so businesses dying just because of smoking bans aint going to happen sorry to ruin your little fun with this but not happening. But businesses dying because of the dollar I believe that for sure and also the economy has gone down also since the Canadian dollar has gone up also so don't blame everything on smoking because it aint because of that.
