Horry County will pay boarding fees
The council in Horry County, South Carolina decided to tax casino boats. This coincides with the state law that says counties have the right to charge boarding fees and gross proceeds for casino boats. The law also states that casinos may be banned after five years.
The executive manager of SunCruz Casinos, Greg Karan, thinks that $3 per passenger is fair as opposed to the $7 the county is asking for. But he does not think the county should tax gambling proceeds. The boats already pay about $250 000 and 2 percent tax for equipment and food and drinks, respectively.
